In the middle of the mighty Himalayas of North India lies the former kingdom of Ladakh. Due to the isolated location you can still regard this as a separate country. You can find here splendid examples of Tibetan culture rivalling those in Tibet itself. The overland route is a fascinating challenge thanks to the rugged mountainous area and the high altitude. Our journey starts from the old British hill station Shimla, follows the valleys of Kinnaur and Spiti and takes you gradually higher up. Perfect for your altitude acclimatisation. On the way you’ll see impressive landscapes and traditional villages. The road climbs further over 3 high mountain passes. As soon as we reach Leh we prepare ourselves for a five-day trek from Lamayuru to the Alchi monastery. The final challenge will be to climb Ladakha’s highest mountain: Stok Kangri (6120 m). A real peak experience! On the way back home you’ll have time for leisure in Delhi or Agra (the Taj Mahal).
