Discover Asia

Silkroad-Tibet

Over the passes of the Himalayas

This is perhaps one of Asia's most adventurous journeys to undertake. It takes you from North Pakistan to the Taklamakan Desert and further to the high plains and snow-capped mountains of Tibet and Nepal. The whole journey covers more than 4000 km overland and crosses over the highest passes of the Karakoram and the Himalayas. You will experience your trip as a sort of expedition while going through these barren but impressive landscapes. Your first encounter with the highest mountains in the world will be breathtaking. The journey is unique for its cultural significance because you follow the trail of how Buddhism came to Tibet. Finding traces of this rich history is an experience in itself. Examples in Kashgar, Turfan and Dunhuang, long time trading posts on the Silkroad. are literally a peak experience. Distant views of high plains, deep blue lakes and snow-capped peaks is the landscape you're travelling through. In the Tibetan cities of Lhasa, Gyantse and Xigatse you'll see examples of fine Tibetan culture. Your journey eventually ends in Kathmandu, Nepal.
