The Indian Himalayas

Over the passes to Ladakh

In the middle of the mighty Himalayas of North India lies the former kingdom of Ladakh. Due to its isolated location you can still regard this as a separate country. You'll find here splendid examples of Tibetan culture, which rival those in Tibet itself. The overland route is a fascinating challenge to travel thanks to the rugged mountainous area and the high passes you'll have to get over. On this journey we take you on a highly interesting detour through the valleys of Kinnaur-en Spiti, a part of the Himalayas hardly known by tourists. This also offers a gradual climb to the higher altitudes avoiding the risk of mountain sickness, besides magnificent landscapes and some picturesque places. The last part pf your journey will be in the capital of Ladakh, Leh, where you have plenty of time to visit the interesting sites like the monasteries of Hemis, Thikse and the beautifully located Lamayuru. Via Delhi, where you can add Agra (the Taj Mahal) to your programme, you will fly back home.
